A WHISKY LESS ORDINARY
THERE’S WHISKY. AND THEN THERE’S LAPHROAIG.
THERE’S ONLY ONE LAPHROAIG
Laphroaig, meaning “the beautiful hollow by a broad bay” in Islay’s native Gaelic tongue, is a place like no other. The distillery is perched on the shore, exposed to all the elements the Hebridean Sea can throw at it. Our cherished Kilbride Stream is right beside us. And so is the rich Islay peatland we’ve been infusing into our whisky for over 200 years.
It’s this stunning spot that inspired brothers Alexander and Donald Johnston to lay the foundations of the Laphroaig distillery back in 1815. Over two centuries later, our substantial distillery boasts seven stills. Yes, we may have grown over the years but some things never change. Our original kilns still burn as bright as our love for making our world-famous whisky. A dram as individual as the place in which it’s made.

Laphroaig distillery is steeped in over two centuries of history, so you might say we have more than a few tales to tell. Pour yourself a dram and dig into the rich stories surrounding our peaty past.
An exciting announcement
We're excited to announce the appointment of our new Distillery Manager, George Campbell. Laphroaig is very familiar to George, as it's where he started his career as a Distillery Tour Guide. This was then followed by a move to Australia, where he learnt everything there is to know about whisky. Now George has returned to Islay to start a new and exciting journey with the Laphroaig team.

| Maintenance Periods | Producing our complex and perfectly flavoured Laphroaig Single Malt is no easy task, and in common with most Scotch whisky distilleries, we cease production for certain periods in the year for essential maintenance and improvement works to our facilities. |
