The Wall Collection Returns

THE WALL 39-YEAR OLD ROPE EDITION
The second release in this series of rare and wonderfully aged whiskies is one of the oldest Laphroaig expressions we’ve ever released. It’s inspired by the essence of movement, craft, and travel that’s so crucial to the way our sherry cask-made whiskies come to be. And so, when it came to bottling this 39-Year-Old spirit, we decided to take the opportunity to celebrate the journey of sherry casks to our distillery made by puffer boats. We named this edition Rope, after the ropes used on the boats that would carry the casks to our bay.
Hand-painted by award-winning painter and ceramicist Laura Carlin.
Each bottle is emblazoned with a hand-painted design that beautifully evokes this theme in striking black and white, using the very same paint used by our warehouse painter, Sammy, when he adds a fresh coat of paint to the iconic paintwork on our warehouse wall.
Each bottle of Rope is a collector’s item: not only because only 200 have been produced, but because every one is hand-painted by award-winning painter and ceramicist Laura Carlin. Carlin knows our distillery well, having spent time on Islay soaking up its unique atmosphere, and she also designed the bottle of The Wall Collection’s first instalment, Peat.

WHERE CRAFT MEETS ART

A hand painted memorable classic
Carlin’s design depicts the ropes of the puffer boats that provided the vital link between the world of sherry and our home here on the Isle of Islay. Carrying sherry casks to Islay is a journey that took skill and vigour, just like so much of what it takes to make a whisky in our remote corner of the Hebrides.
By depicting the puffer boats’ nautical ropes, Carlin’s design for the bottle resonates with the sherry matured whisky within, an element of its flavour that lends the profile a worthwhile added dimension to run alongside our unmistakable peaty character. Housed in a distinctively Laphroaig green bottle, it’d make an ideal addition to your collection.
The Wall Rope Edition is exclusively available within Warehouse 1.

A STRONG START
Our hardy distillery wall rests on foundations which date back to the 1800s, built to withstand the weather rain or shine on a patch of the bay which bears the brunt of the Atlantic’s sea spray. It’s apt, then, that the second edition of The Wall Collection is building on strong foundations of its own: that first edition of the collection, Peat.
Aged for 36 years and released in 2023, Peat was a limited release of 200 bottles, and much like Rope, it put the lifeblood of Laphroaig’s character front and centre – with each bottle was also hand-painted by Carlin.
On this occasion, her focus was the Islay peat of the bottling’s name, and she put together a striking monochrome depiction of blocks of peat laid out in zig-zagging formations. Each bottle was different, reflecting the organic and earthy nature of our whisky-making process. And just like Rope, each one was unique.
The Wall Collection
Nestled against the lapping waves of the Atlantic, our warehouse wall creates a distinctive vista, acting as a bold display of our name on sturdy and historic foundations. It basks in the bright sun in springtime, just as it stands strong against blustering winds as winter draws in. It’s a bulwark against the ocean, and the backbone of our distillery site. We’re proud of it all year round, because it stands for something: the passion and perseverance of our people.
As a tribute to this beloved piece of our distillery, we made a series of rare, aged expressions named after it. The Wall Collection captures the very essence of Laphroaig’s people, and the determination and belief that has defined our distillery since its first days in 1815, when a small group of islanders first teamed up to combine ancient skills with a steadfast dedication to creating distinctive single malt whisky.
