Because you’re about to meet some of the more eccentric members of the Laphroaig® clan. The ones you might’ve heard about, but never quite managed to acquaint yourself with. Whiskies created by our distillers and blenders to explore the realms of flavour, and bring different elements of our legendary character to the fore with emphatic style.

THE WAY NATURE INTENDED

This one’s for the purists. Laphroaig® 10 Cask Strength is like tasting our full character at the source. Because this whisky is only filtered to remove small char particles from the inside of our barrels. And that’s it. Then the whisky’s bottled at natural distillery strength so you get to try it exactly as we made it.

We mature this Laphroaig® in seasoned oak barrels, charred before filling to impart a slightly sweet vanilla nuttiness. It’s a malt of such peaty pungency and uncompromising purity that it may appear a little cloudy when you add water at low temperatures. Adding a drop releases a rich aroma of peat smoke with some sweetness and strong hints of the sea. It’s a full bodied and utterly unforgettable cask strength single malt. We’re sure you’ll agree, there’s nothing like tasting whisky in its purest form.

THE NUMBER ONE INGREDIENT? TIME

Our next bottle is the most historic in our core range in terms of age and proves patience pays off. Laphroaig® 25 Cask Strength is aged for a quarter of a century in a combination of Oloroso sherry butts and ex-Bourbon barrels. This gives the whisky all our signature flavour of peat smoke and ‘medicinal’ notes, but with a more mellow character. Creamy vanilla and spiced apples flood your palate, followed by a long, warm finish that leaves a lasting impression.

However, a softer character doesn’t make this whisky any less powerful. It’s bottled at cask strength for higher alcohol volume and straight-from-the-barrel flavour that you only usually get to sample at the distillery. A new batch is released every year, which is distinguished by ABV and the year it was released – as is Laphroaig®10 Cask Strength. No release is the same, so if you try them side by side you can actually taste each one’s unique character. It does spend a long time in the barrel, but flavour isn’t something you can rush.
