A brand new addition of this exclusive series

Since 1815, our work here at Laphroaig has been guided by distillers with the courage and intuition to create truly extraordinary whisky.

We created The Archive Collection as a way of honouring the boundless dedication they’ve poured into our spirit over generations. This unique series of aged whiskies offers a special chance to own some of the most precious single malts we’ve ever bottled – whiskies that pay homage to the skill and attention to detail it takes to age our single malt to perfection.

We’ll soon be revealing a brand new addition of this exclusive series, Archive 38-Year-Old.

It takes rare talent to watch over and guide a spirit of this calibre, but there’s plenty of that to go around here at Laphroaig. In a journey that’s taken decades, this one-of-a-kind release has been carefully refined under the guidance of masters of our craft who’ve taken the utmost care to nurture its bold, composed profile – culminating in a balanced taste that leaves an unforgettable impression on the palate.

With just a small number of bottles available, Archive 38-Year-Old is a rare opportunity to claim a piece of Laphroaig history; and once it’s gone, it’s gone. For the chance to own this highly limited release, we are running a ballot entry system, as we believe this is the fairest way for our Friends to get a chance to secure a bottle. To be in with a chance of owning one, make sure your name is in the running by entering the ballot here. Good luck.

It’s still too early to reveal the full details of this second edition in our series of highly limited edition aged whiskies. In the meantime, we can take a look at its predecessor to glean a few clues about what you can expect when we reveal everything you need to know about this long-awaited second release.

Following in the footsteps of a classic

Archive 36-Year-Old

It feels like yesterday we were announcing the inaugural edition of the Archive Collection: Archive 36-Year-Old.

With layers of complexity enriching a distinctively Laphroaig taste, this powerful cask-strength whisky captured the whole range of our single malt’s extraordinary character. Aged for 36 years, this was a truly special way to savour decades of Laphroaig distilling, and went down very well indeed with Friends fortunate enough to experience its spectrum of flavour and aromas.

 A few stories to tell

Rich and complex tasting profile

A whisky that’s been in cask for that length of time always has a few stories to tell, and Archive 36-Year-Old was no different. Having taken all the time it needed in ex-bourbon American oak casks before resting in second fill Oloroso hogshead, it was able to evolve just as much as it needed, with each aspect of its rich and complex tasting profile gently ebbing and flowing in importance over the years as the whisky matured in its own time.

To showcase this whisky’s age and quality, we knew we had to try something different, and decided to house it in a hand-blown green glass bottle. With smooth curves and textured neck, the bottle acted as a tribute to the care-worn sea glass that washes up on our stretch of coast on the Isle of Islay. By the time it reaches visitors to the shoreline, this glass has already been shaped by a combination of the salty ocean and the passing years.

Creating a beautiful bottle out of this abandoned glass took time and patience, mirroring the distillation process of the whisky within. The bottle’s information was then laser etched on to it, doing away with the need for a label on this occasion, and turning this limited run of 400 bottles – which were sold in a ballot – into even more of a collector’s item.

Now, Archive 38-Year-Old will connect an even wider span of time in time between the day the spirit was first poured into casks to the moment you uncork your bottle and sit back to savour that dram.
