What is Elements? It’s where we focus on the artistry of production that makes Laphroaig’s whisky so full of character and rich flavour. We love to let our team show off their skills, carefully tweaking parts of the distillation process to challenge expectations and redefine expectations of what a Laphroaig whisky can be.
At Laphroaig, we love to think outside the cask.
In the process, they often discover totally new and bold aspects of the distinctive Laphroaig profile.
Typically, experimentation in single malt whisky making is reserved more for cask maturation, and it’s rare for innovation to happen at the distillation stage. But there’s nothing typical about our team. It’s another way they go the extra mile to create the very best experience our whisky can offer.
In the past, Elements releases have experimented with changing wort and mash tun size, and fermentation times. So what is it that makes Elements 3.0 stand out from the crowd?
A stroke of good luck
The initial idea for this release came from a stroke of good luck. We experienced an unexpected fire in our kiln, which caused it to burn the peat for longer and at much higher temperatures than it ordinarily would have, and our talented team were quick to see an opportunity to experiment. The resulting whisky was distilled from the malt resting on the floor above.
All that remained was to wait to see what new flavour experiences could result – and as it turned out, they did not disappoint. The heat brought out chocolate and coffee notes, creating a truly special and exclusive small batch whisky.
An impressive collection
Elements 3.0 is available now in a limited run through our website. It’s a big moment for the series. In fact, with this third instalment, Elements is not only a series, it’s an impressive collection. The third item in what is now a trilogy of top-notch whiskies is all the confirmation we need of the calibre of these releases when considered together.
We’re proud to make this unique and exclusive new small batch creation available to appreciators of fine whiskies everywhere, whether you’ve enjoyed Elements 1.0 and Elements 2.0 or are coming to the series for the first time.
