Laphroaig Unwrapped
Exclusively for Friends
The perfect bottle of Laphroig doesnât just emerge from the peat of Islay â itâs made and shared by our people.
The team at the distillery embody our courageous spirit. They make whisky from the heart and share their passion with visitors.
On November 28th, three of our talented visitor centre team opened a selection of bottles as part of Laphroaig Unwrapped, a special festive virtual tasting. Alice, Ross, and Eila talked through some of their favourite Laphroaig whiskies, whilst Friends joined us in the live chat to ask questions, share festive traditions, and connect with other Friends.
Letâs meet the teamâŠ
Meet Alice
A staple of our Visitor Centre, Alice loves to welcome people from all over the world to Laphroaig, and the beautiful island of Islay. Whether sheâs scaling a hilltop to tell guests about our heritage, or shifting pallets of merchandise with her trusty forklift, Alice is always on hand to keep things moving. Sheâs also a keen history buff, much like her colleague Susan â so much so that the two of them go by âHistorical and Hystericalâ at the centre. Who is who? Youâll have to ask them!
Favourite Laphroaig whisky: Cask Strength Batch 17 â with plenty of presence, itâs the perfect pudding dram.
Meet Ross
For Ross, Islay is part of the family. Having moved to the island permanently in 2022 to follow in his ancestorsâ footsteps, Ross can be seen all around the Laphroaig site, manning the bar, shop, tour, or festival with trademark enthusiasm. As a lover of whisky himself, Rossâ passion defines his work â for him, Laphroaig represents a career and a hobby, both hugely fulfilling.
Favourite Laphroaig whisky: CĂ irdeas Cask Favourites â a Pedro Ximenez showcase with treacly tones and signature peat smokiness.
Meet Elia
Having grown up on Islay, Eila has a unique appreciation for the island lifestyle, and all the wonders it has to offer. Having risen through the ranks at our Visitor Centre, first joining on secondment back in 2018, Elia is undaunted by challenges and loves welcoming guests into the Laphroaig family. Sheâs also a dab hand with the bagpipes, if you have any requestsâŠ
Favourite Laphroaig whisky: Sherry Oak â its timeless warmth and lush sweetness are unbeatable.
